Lord Sri Krishna was born in the midnight of the 8th lunar day(Ashtami Thithi) in the month of August or September.

He was born in prison when his parents are in the custody of his uncle, Kamsa. But His father, Vasudev handed over the child to his friend Nanda to protect from Kamsa.
