Satyanarayana Puja is initiated by choosing a suitable day and by inviting your friends and close relatives. You need to arrange some flowers, fruits, essential things and appoint a pundit for performing all the rituals. All the essential things should be kept near the puja spot and the place should be cleaned with cow dung before placing everything. You can optionally decorate your home with flowers and garlands and beautify the puja spot with colors and rangoli. All your invitees should be seated facing the God at a certain distance.
Lord Satyanarayana should be offered certain Prasad’s like Sheera or Halwa using sooji, sugar, ghee, milk, cardamoms, and raisins/cashews. This is the main Prasad which is offered to the God and you can also offer some khichdi, vegetables, rice, or dal which should also be offered to the invitees after the puja ceremony is over. This should be kept in mind that you should avoid cooking non-beg items like fish, meat, or eggs. The key Prasad should be offered with fruits, sweets, or any uncooked mixture.
The puja begins with a prayer to Lord Ganesha to eradicate all worldly obstacles and hindrances. The pundit chants certain mantras for the Lord by offering currencies or coins near the flower plate. He also recites the story of Lord Satyanarayana which is to be heard by all the people present near the puja spot. After the puja is over, all the invitees are required to participate in the Prasad and flower offerings and seek blessings from the Lord.
In different regions, Satyanarayana Puja is held with different rituals, so the tradition might slightly vary in each state. Even the Indian people residing outside India, in the UK, US, Australia and other countries also perform Satyanarayana Puja at their homes for the betterment of their lives.
This tradition is not only limited to the Indian states. Most people in US & UK send a video invitation to their guests for the puja which is high time-saving and cost-cutting. They remain so busy with the puja arrangements that they hardly get time to send paper invites. So the video invitations work pleasantly for the occasion.
Hence, if you are planning for Satyanarayana Puja at home, then you can arrange everything at a reduced time. Since this is an auspicious occasion you need to invite most of your guests for a gathering and for the blessing of your home.
